Race day checklist
Simple, boring and it works. Go through it the night before and again in the morning.

GO
The week before
Collect your bib and race kit, or check how and when to collect it.
Read the official race day instructions: start time, reporting time, start area, bag drop.
Plan how you get to the start and how you get home.
Do not try anything new. Not shoes, not food, not gels.
Trim your toenails a few days before, not the night before.
The night before
Pin your bib to your top.
Lay out shoes, socks, shorts, top, cap and anything else you will wear.
Charge your watch and phone.
Pack gels or snacks if your race is long enough to need them.
Anti chafe balm or petroleum jelly in the bag.
Set two alarms.
Eat a normal dinner you have eaten before. Drink water through the evening.
Race morning
Eat your tested breakfast two to three hours before the start if you can.
Use the toilet before you leave, and again at the venue. The queue will be long.
Apply sunscreen and anti chafe balm.
Reach the start with time to spare, check the start area and bag drop.
Warm up gently with a short walk or easy jog.
Line up in the right start zone for your pace.
In your bag
Bib, safety pins, race ID if the organisers ask for it.
Water bottle.
A layer you can throw away or drop at the start on cold mornings.
Dry clothes and slippers for after.
A small towel.
Some cash and your phone.
A snack for after the finish.
During the race
Start slower than you want to.
Take water at the stations, even small sips.
Walk if you need to. It is allowed and it works.
Thank the volunteers.
After the finish
Keep walking for a few minutes.
Drink and eat something within an hour.
Change into dry clothes.
Find the tribe and take the photo.
